The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of an up-and-down season. At some points, they seem to be able to contend for a top position in the Eastern Conference. At other times, it looks like they barely deserve to add when the trade deadline comes around. It is likely the 76ers decide to add a cost-controlled player or two when the deadline comes around, so here’s a look at some of those options.
Keon Ellis is the exact type of player that any team would like to have. His great defense and three-point shooting make him a prototypical guard that fits on any roster. He will surely be a hot commodity when the trade deadline comes around, but the 76ers have the assets to get a deal done. The Sacramento Kings’ guard would fit nicely in the great Philadelphia guard rotation and give them a point of attack defender they are currently missing.
Jay Huff would be a great upgrade over Andre Drummond and give the 76ers a floor spacing big man behind Joel Embiid. The Indiana Pacers are having a dreadful season with the number of injuries they’ve had. Huff has received a majority of their center minutes and has been great with that opportunity. He is averaging nine points per game in just under 20 minutes per game.
GG Jackson seems to need a change of scenery. The Memphis Grizzlies forward once appeared to be a key piece in their plans, but quickly fell off when the roster regained health. If the 21-year-old can get back to the form from his rookie season, he would be a great improvement over Justin Edwards or even Kelly Oubre.
Yves Missi is rumored to be on the trade block for the New Orleans Pelicans. It is an interesting topic considering he has a similar game to Adem Bona; he is just more consistent. This is an opportunity to get another young and talented center in the 76ers locker room and would absolutely be an improvement for the present and the future.
Onyeka Okongwu would cost more than anyone else listed, but he would be a perfect match in Philadelphia. He could be the center when Embiid misses time and start at PF with the former MVP on the court. His improved three-point shooting and quick feet on defense are exactly what is needed next to Embiid.
The 76ers are still a piece or two away from truly making a run in the East. No matter what happens, they will be a scary team that a higher seed does not want to face in round one. It is another season that greatly depends on the health of their stars, while also needing some improvement around the edges.
