76ers Announce Joel Embiid News Before Knicks Game

Joel Embiid has played three straight games for the Philadelphia 76ers, which is the most consecutive number of contests he’s suited up for this season. On Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks, the former NBA MVP posted a 22-point, 14-rebound double-double. It was another strong outing from Embiid, following his 39-point explosion against the Indiana Pacers on Friday.

Embiid, however, has popped up on the injury report with a new issue. The Sixers are back in action on Friday against the New York Knicks, and it appears that they could be without their superstar big man again, potentially putting an end to Embiid’s three-game playing streak.

Injuries have limited Embiid to just 11 games this season. Most recently, a knee issue kept him out for nine straight games. This season, the 7-foot center has produced averages of 20.5 points on 42.1% shooting, 6.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 blocks in 26.2 minutes per contest. Embiid is also knocking down 1.1 triples per game on a 22.6% clip.

Embiid now appears headed to another game on the sidelines. This is after the Sixers listed him as questionable to play against the Knicks. This time around, it’s an illness that has cast doubt on Embiid’s status. The team made the announcement via the official injury report.

The 76ers have not provided the full details of Embiid’s illness. Depending on the severity of the same, it’s possible that Embiid could sit out on Friday, and perhaps beyond.

The silver lining for the Sixers, however, is that Tyrese Maxey is set to return in their next game. The 6-foot-2 guard was forced to miss the last two contests due to an illness, but he has recovered in time for Friday’s matchup against New York.

The Sixers enter Friday’s contest with a 14-11 record. They will be on the road against the Knicks, with tip-off from Madison Square Garden scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
