The Philadelphia 76ers are hoping to emerge as one of the best teams in the East after a disappointing 24-25 season, where they won just 24 games.
After starting this season 6-3, hopes are high in Philadelphia as Tyrese Maxey is looking like an All-NBA candidate, V.J. Edgecombe is a contender for Rookie of the Year, while Paul George is yet to make his season debut.
However, the picture around Joel Embiid isn't as pretty.
Embiid made sure he was available to play games for the 76ers as the season started, playing 58 games over the last two seasons combined. While he has made six appearances, he's averaged just 23.3 minutes per game as the team continues to manage his load.
He's been really productive in his limited minutes, scoring 20+ points in his last five appearances, while averaging 19.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists on the season.
With a high-stakes clash against the current No. 1 seed Detroit Pistons (7-2) on Sunday, the 76ers have announced on the NBA's official injury report that Embiid will miss the game due to injury management on his left knee.
Embiid played in the 76ers' last game, a 130-120 win over the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, so many won't be surprised to see him ruled out of this back-to-back clash.

He'll join Paul George (knee), Dominick Barlow (elbow) and Johni Broome (ankle). Jared McCain (thumb) is officially listed as available.
The Pistons will be without Tobias Harris (ankle), Jaden Ivey (knee), Colny Jones (G League) and Marcus Sasser (hip). Isaiah Stewart (ankle) is listed as doubtful, while Caris LeVert (knee) is probable.
