76ers' Danny Green ruled out with knee injury suffered early in Game 6

Philadelphia 76ers forward Danny Green appeared to suffer a serious knee injury in the first quarter of Game 6 in a series against the Miami Heat.

Green, 34, was hit in the knees by his teammate Joel Embiid who was falling to the floor. After he was helped to the locker room, Green was ruled out for the remainder of the game and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported there is "significant concern" about the severity of the injury.

Green started 28 of 62 games he played for the 76ers during the regular season and averaged 5.9 points, 1.0 assist, and 2.5 rebounds per game in 21.8 minutes. He's played a bigger role in the postseason with starts in all 12 of the 76ers' playoff games. Green averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in the team's first 11 games.

The 76ers trail 3-2 in the series and would be eliminated with a loss to the Heat on Thursday. With Green out for the remainder of the game, the team will likely lean more on Matisse Thybulle and Georges Niang.

Green was acquired by Philadelphia in a December 2020 trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, who acquired Green just a couple weeks earlier in a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
