76ers potentially have their eyes set on LeBron James to team him up with Joel Embiid in Philly
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly interested in pursuing big-name players in the 2024 offseason, with Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James being one of the potential targets. This comes after a disappointing season where they finished with the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference and were eliminated in the first round by the New York Knicks.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey, the 76ers are seeking to complement their core of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey , and LeBron James’ playmaking abilities would be a valuable addition. Despite his age, James has continued to exhibit impressive playmaking abilities, as he averaged 8.3 assists per game in the regular season and 8.8 assists per game in the playoffs.

The Sixers do have their eyes on other lucrative-salary impact players just in case they don’t get George. That’s why they also are looking at potential free agents like the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James and New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby… They’re targeting star-level players who they believe can catapult them to the top of the Eastern Conference. However, it’s uncertain if LeBron James would be willing to leave the Lakers, especially considering Embiid’s injury history. The Philadelphia 76ers believe they can use their draft assets and cap space to acquire a difference-maker via trade or free agency, and this has made them a team to watch in the offseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers, on the other hand, are reportedly operating as if James will return, but his agent, Rich Paul , may have hinted that the 20-time All-Star is entering free agency. Only time will tell where James ends up bringing his talents in the offseason.

Agent Rich Paul expects LeBron James to play for 2-3 years

LeBron James’ agent, Rich Paul, believes the NBA superstar has 2-3 years left in the league. Paul expressed uncertainty about James’ future beyond next season, stating that he has fewer years left to play than he has already played.

I believe so. We definitely have less years with LeBron James than we've already been able to enjoy... I don't know how long we see him but my conversation with him is just have fun. Just enjoy it because you have a lot less years to play than you've already played. I think we see him next year but how many years after that I don't know. I think he has 2-3 years left in the tank, maybe. Rich Paul on SiriusXM NBA Radio

Despite this, Paul is confident that James will continue to enjoy his time on the court and make the most of his remaining years. As long as he avoids serious injuries, James is likely to maintain a high level of play.

Paul’s assessment aligns with many fans’ expectations. While it’s difficult to predict exactly how much longer James will continue to play, it’s clear that he remains a dominant force in the NBA.
