76ers president Chris Heck resigns after nine years with team

Philadelphia 76ers team president Chris Heck is resigning after nearly a decade with the organization.

The first half of Heck's run with the Sixers was during the beginning of "The Process" Era, as the franchise as the team finished with four straight seasons with less than 30 wins, including three consecutive with fewer than 20 victories. Philadelphia earned multiple No. 1 overall draft selections, picking Ben Simmons in the 2016 event and Markelle Fultz in the 2017 showcase, as well as Joel Embiid at third overall in 2014.

Since a stretch of five straight seasons without reaching the NBA playoffs, the Sixers have now made the playoffs in each of the last five campaigns, but have failed to make it past the Eastern Conference semifinals. Heck took over as the president of business operations in September 2017.

"It's time," Heck said, per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. "I’ve kind of done everything I set out to do except for maybe organize an [NBA championship] parade. I’m really happy with what we accomplished during the time period, but it’s on to the next chapter."

Heck said that it is his decision to leave the team -- he will be staying on through June -- and he made the call back in February.

"I just want to do it the right way," Heck said. "I just want to make sure everything is buttoned up [before leaving]."

According to Pompey, under Heck's leadership, the Sixers sold out every game for the last five seasons and increased sponsorship growth by 30 percent annually. Prior to joining the 76ers, Heck was the president of business operations for the MLS' New York Red Bulls.
