$94 Million NBA Star Sends Message After Trade to Nuggets

Earlier this offseason, the Brooklyn Nets and Denver Nuggets made a big trade. Denver sent Michael Porter Jr. to Brooklyn, while the Nets traded Cameron Johnson in exchange.

Johnson, who the Nets acquired from the Phoenix Suns as part of the Kevin Durant trade in 2023, had been the subject of trade talks all season long. While it was not a shock that Brooklyn ultimately traded him, there was still some uncertainty about where he would end up.

After his trade away from Brooklyn, the Pennsylvania native recently broke his silence and sent a major message to the team.

Though the Nets did not have much team success during his stint, Johnson still enjoyed the best seasons of his career with the team. In his goodbye message, the 29-year-old spoke highly of the organization and the coaching staff, saying that he "appreciates them" and "will miss them."

"I love the people in that building… I enjoyed it because of that, and I had faith in what we were building because of that. I really think Jordi's a fantastic coach. Playing that one season under him, personnel constantly shifting, we had trades, we had injuries, he always maintained such a good approach to the team, and he was always able to motivate us to play hard," Johnson said about his time with the Nets. "Our record wasn't great, but I think throughout the season we consistently gave effort. And I credit our coaching staff a lot for that... I’ll miss them, and I appreciate them. I appreciate everything they did for myself and my career."

His run with the Nets was short-lived, but Johnson was able to increase his value with the team. Last season, he averaged a career-high 18.8 points per game while shooting 47.5% from the field and 39% from the three-point line. Additionally, he averaged 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

Johnson will now turn his attention to helping the Nuggets get back to the top, as they are still just a couple of years removed from an NBA Championship victory. However, though he is going to a better situation, it seems evident that Brooklyn left an impact on him, even if he was not with the team for too long.
