Carmelo Anthony’s Son Kiyan Anthony is starting “a new era” of basketball for the Syracuse Orange, where his dad also played back in the day.
Kiyan recently announced that he will be playing for the Syracuse Orange. The 17-year-old budding prodigy made the announcement and shared highlights of his launch day on Instagram, with the caption “a new era.”
Parents Carmelo and La La Anthony were at the event and expressed their support for their son.
“As a father, this is a special moment,” Carmelo said. “You’ve (Kiyan’s) got a chance to put the school, the community, and New York back to where it’s supposed to be.”
“Melo and I couldn’t be more proud of our son,” La La added. “This is such an amazing, major moment for him.”
Syracuse Post-Standard reporter Mike Waters covered the Commitment Day event and he recalled how it was an emotional moment for parents Carmelo and La La Anthony.
“His name and profile are huge,” Waters said, talking about Kiyan. “I think he will attract other recruits. I think he’ll inject some excitement into the program. Fans are going to want to see the son of Carmelo Anthony when he suits up for the Orange.”
Mike added: “And Kiyan’s decision means we’ll see more of Carmelo Anthony at SU games and in the community. At the party, Carmelo told me that he plans to be much more involved in SU athletics and in the Syracuse community. I know he’s got some business projects in the works and I also think the SU athletic department would love to have him promote their NIL efforts.”

Following the iconic father-and-son duo of LeBron and Bronny James inside the court calls for Carmelo Anthony to come out of retirement even for one game has been rekindled anew.
In one of Kiyan Anthony’s podcast episodes, with Angel Reese as a guest, the Chicago Sky WNBA star called out to the now-retired NBA legend to grace the court once more and join his son Kiyan.
In a newer episode of Kiyan’s podcast, he discussed how his dada shut down any possibility of him playing ball again, even for the Olympics.
“I don’t want to replace nobody, they deserve to be on that team,” Carmelo said. “I would come out and just be like a little honorary captain.”
“I think it’s over,” Kiyan Anthony said. “He’s been getting too comfortable, chilling and working.”
