The Denver Nuggets have rejuvenated their roster ahead of the 2025-26 season. Their starting power forward, Aaron Gordon, knows the Nuggets are doing well enough to be called a contender for the championship.
Before the 2025 NBA Finals series against the Indiana Pacers, the Denver Nuggets were the only team that took the Oklahoma City Thunder to the limit. They forced a Game 7 in the Western Conference Semifinals, taking them to a do-or-die result that went in the Thunder’s favor.
Now that the Nuggets have improved their roster by trading for sharpshooter Cameron Johnson and talented backup big man Jonas Valanciunas, they have the depth to compete for a title. Starting power forward Aaron Gordon was fantastic in the latest postseason run, but everyone knows they need more depth. Now, Gordon and the rest of the team are confident with their chances.
Denver was one of the most talented teams in the NBA, but they were a bit top-heavy in the 2024-25 season. Michael Porter Jr. was a great fit with the team, but he became too unreliable. With Johnson as his replacement, the Nuggets have a player who fits the same profile, one who is more reliable in terms of availability and defense.
With Jokic, anything is possible with the Nuggets. However, their floor rises even higher when they have a more stable supporting cast around them. With Gordon continuing to rise as a top running mate and Jamal Murray going back to his best, the Nuggets are in a good spot. David Adelman might be the new head coach, but he has been with the team for a long time.
Gordon knows that the Nuggets are ready to compete against the Thunder because of his improvements and the Nuggets’ chances to win. The Thunder could easily repeat as champions, given the numbers they have delivered.
“I think that I’m at a point in my career where my body, my mind, and my game are all kind of catching up and evening out in my prime. So I feel like I’m the best I’ve ever been in basketball, and I feel like we’re gonna see another champion,” Gordon said during the offseason.

The NBA has plenty of good teams ahead of the 2025-26 season, but the Thunder and the Nuggets are the two squads that people feel will be title contenders. Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be the primary rivals, as they look to lead their teams to another title.
Denver has a strong shot of competing because the Nuggets have a solid team. Jokic, Gordon, and Murray are their strongest core. However, Johnson and Valanciunas are fantastic additions that provide the team with stability. The rest of the supporting cast knows how to play their roles, and they are prepared to keep fighting for the Nuggets.

Adelman is not the most proven head coach, but he did a great job in his short time in the role. Now that he has signed a full-time contract and has a whole offseason under his belt, he could surprise people with a title bid. It will be a challenging campaign, but the Nuggets will be a top-tier team moving forward with all of their assets.
