The Denver Nuggets have set their eyes on winning the 2026 NBA championship this season. So far, the Nuggets have been competitive and are 14-6, which puts them in fourth place in the Western Conference. With the ultimate prize in sight, forward Aaron Gordon did not hesitate to predict their title win.
The last time the Nuggets won the championship was in 2023. Since then, the group has tried to repeat its success. Unfortunately for Denver, they'd dealt with second-round exits in back-to-back years.
This year, however, the team is confident it can be a serious contender to win the Larry O'Brien trophy.
The first episode of "The Old Man and the Three" featured Gordon as the first guest, with Cam Johnson as the main host. In the season three opener, the starting forward boldly predicted the Nuggets would win the championship.
“At the end of the day, I believe, we’re going to be the ones that walk off with a win. We’ll be the last team to win. Everyone else is going to hold an L at the end of the season. Except for us. We’re going to be the ones to win at the end of the season,” Gordon said.
"Just be Cam Johnson. Be yourself. That's it. That's all we need." -- Aaron Gordon gives Cam Johnson advice as he transitions to being on the Denver Nuggets OM3 EPISODE 1 WITH AARON GORDON IS OFFICIALLY LIVE EVERYWHERE pic.twitter.com/c5GHa6swAH

It's a bold claim to make for Gordon. Even with one of the best players in Nikola Jokic, the Western Conference alone has a plethora of challenges. They'll have to overcome the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Even Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers are considered a threat in the conference. The Kevin Durant-led Houston Rockets are a serious competition.
That's just in one conference. Teams like the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks are also focused on seriously contending for the NBA title in the East. Even with that, Gordon has the utmost confidence in himself, his team and teammates this year.
