Aaron Gordon Reveals Details On Scary Dog Bite Incident: 'I Probably Had A Little Bit Too Much Eggnog'

The NBA world received a jolt last week when it emerged that Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon had to get 21 stitches on his face and hand after a vicious dog attack. Not many details were revealed at the time, but Gordon has now opened up on the incident, where his own Rottweiler bit him on Christmas night.

“I guess it’s a little bit embarrassing, but not too embarrassing to where I can’t talk about it,” Gordon told The Denver Post. “I don’t drink a lot during the season. I probably had a little bit too much eggnog. I was kind of roughhousing with my dog, and I think my dog got a little excited and just basically chomped down. Gave me a bite. And I was basically wrestling him off of me, and then he bit my hand.

“For lack of better words, I was (messing) around with my dog, and when you (mess) around, you find out.”

Gordon had adopted the dog four years ago when the animal was just six weeks old. As the 28-year-old has to travel across the country during the NBA season, he doesn't get to spend a lot of time training the Rottweiler to how he needs him to be.

Gordon probably ended up being a bit rougher with the animal than what he is accustomed to, which led to the bites. This incident did, however, lead to questions about the dog, but Gordon doesn't believe there is anything wrong with him.

“He’s a good boy. He’s a good dog,” Gordon said. “… Very attached. Very sweet. Very strong. Great dog.”

Gordon is very much placing the blame on himself for this incident and clearly thinks this was just a one-off. His dad, who is actually the one taking care of the dog, might have to train the Rottweiler in some way to ensure it doesn't react in this manner.

Aaron Gordon Hopes To Be Back For The Game Against The Hornets

When the news broke on December 27 regarding this dog-biting incident, there was no timetable for a return for Gordon. Any concerns regarding a potential long-term absence can be put to rest, though, as he hopes to return to action against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night.

Gordon rejoined practice on Sunday, with his right hand sporting many of the stitches that he had to get. Despite that, he feels good to go, as he has played with stitches on his hand before. Gordon also hilariously added that he doesn't care about the stitches on his face, stating “We’re not running a pageant here.”

The Nuggets beat the Memphis Grizzlies 142-105 in the first game that he missed but then lost 119-93 in the second one to the Oklahoma City Thunder to fall to 23-11. They could probably afford him sitting out against the Hornets, who have lost their last 10, but Gordon, who is averaging 13.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game this season, seems very eager to get back on the court.
