NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has spoken out with a strong message during the intense 2025 NBA Playoffs, calling for big changes in how the game is covered by the media.
During a conversation on the Numbers on the Board podcast, Silver shared that while he respects the media’s role, he believes they need to shift their focus.
“I respect the job the media does," Silver said. "But sometimes they don’t spend enough time talking about why people love this game.”
Silver revealed he had recently met with legendary former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.
"We should educate people about the game, and celebrate the game,” Krzyzewski said, according to Silver.

Silver’s message isn’t about ignoring problems. He made it clear that asking tough questions and offering criticism is still important. However, he stressed that it shouldn't be the only thing people hear about.
“It’s not a suggestion that people shouldn’t ask tough questions or be critical,” Silver said. “But I wish there was more educating and celebrating.”
This plea comes as some fans and experts argue that NBA media coverage has become too focused on drama. Shows often highlight player feuds, debates about past legends and endless "GOAT" conversations instead of celebrating current stars and amazing moments happening now.
Whether the media will answer Silver’s call to "educate and celebrate" remains to be seen, but the commissioner has made his position clear: the love of the game must come first.
