Adrian Wojnarowski believes Draymond Green, Warriors still have a future together

Initially, it seemed as if Draymond Green would not be long for the Golden State Warriors after massive, and expensive, contract extensions to Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins over the weekend. That, plus the punch heard 'round the NBA.

While the future of the NBA is constantly ebbing and flowing and who knows where it may end up and who ends up on top, it does seem that despite their massive spending spree, Green and the Warriors could find a way to remain together past this season.

Green is currently in the third season of a four-year, $99.6 million contract he signed with the Warriors in August of 2019, but NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski still sees a future with the two sides together — even with tons of resources now allocated to Poole and Wiggins long term.

"I know people want to believe, some want to believe, that it's one or the other. That they necessarily wouldn't be able to keep all three, and I don't think that's the case," Woj said regarding Poole, Wiggins, and ultimately Green.

"Now for Draymond Green with that $27.5 million option next season, almost assuredly he's going to exercise that. Not sure that money is going to be -- in a long-term deal in his mid-30s -- available in the marketplace," Woj said.

The NBA insider went on to speculate that an extension or a small two-year deal could be in play for Green, if the Warriors are still winning and if he wants to remain in place with the franchise that drafted him all the way back in 2012.

Wojnarowski also believes that owner Joe Lacob would have no problem paying the NBA's luxury tax in order to keep a competitive team on the court.

Ultimately, no matter what happens, Woj does see the opt-in from Green as the next logical step in this saga.

"I think there is a lot of time left for the Warriors and Draymond Green to make that decision but certainly, I think, the opt-in on his contract next summer is probably the most likely scenario," Wojnarowski said.
