The Chicago Bulls may have just paid Josh Giddey, but their front office might have to cut another big check next year.
As the Chicago Bulls look to cement their roster, they have finally made some big decisions. Perhaps none bigger than the one they took over Josh Giddey.
After months of consideration, the Bulls re-signed Josh Giddey for $100 million. This means they have faith in him as their point guard for years to come.
The Bulls were skittish about paying Giddey, but decided in the end that his talent and age could make him an asset for the future.
But now, another Bulls guard is eyeing a payday, and in his case, the money isn’t as much as Giddey’s, but it is going to make the front office think.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Chicago Bulls guard Coby White is looking for a significant pay rise in free agency.
In fact, White is looking to earn more than the $30 million per season that the Bulls agreed to pay Josh Giddey as part of their latest agreement.
“Coby White, to my understanding, is going to be eligible for more money as a free agent next year.
“The talk around the league has already been that Coby White is going to be seeking even north of the $30 million average annual value that Josh Giddey has been.
“I’m not expecting an extension for Coby White at this juncture.”
It’s bold of Coby White to try and demand more than Josh Giddey. But given their numbers over the last few years, he has a right to ask for that amount.
Below is a table that compares Josh Giddey and Coby White’s scoring averages over the last two seasons in the NBA:
Season | Josh Giddey | Coby White |
2023-24 | 12.3 | 19.1 |
2024-25 | 14.6 | 20.4 |
Coby White’s scoring numbers are far better than Josh Giddey’s over the last two seasons. If anything, Giddey’s arrival in Chicago only helped improve his scoring averages.
While White is more of a scorer, Giddey has proven that he has more facets to his game, whether that be his playmaking or his ability to defend.
If White wants to earn the same or more than Josh Giddey next season, then he should focus on improving those other aspects of his game.
