Some call them the 2017 Summer League champs, some say they are the former ‘Baby Lakers,’ but Alex Caruso and Josh Hart still remain best buddies after all those years.

A tightly contested game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Knicks had its share of intensity, but former teammates on both teams refused to take it any seriously on the sidelines.

During Sunday night’s matchup, Thunder guard Caruso playfully grabbed a water bottle from Knicks forward Hart during a break in action. Quick enough to play a little trick on him, Hart responded immediately and snatched the bottle a bit far from Alex Caruso’s reach.

However, just when the two-time NBA champion accepted his defeat and turned his face to the side, the Knicks star playfully sprayed water on his face with the fan favorite Gatorade sipper.

Though the moment immediately drew laughter from both players and those nearby. The clip quickly spread online, racking up thousands of reactions within hours.

The moment offered a glimpse into a long-standing friendship that dates back to their time together on the 2017 Los Angeles Lakers Summer League team. While both now play key roles on opposing contenders, that connection was evident in the exchange.

On the court, the Thunder secured a 111-100 win behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 30-point performance. The game remained close deep into the fourth quarter before Oklahoma City pulled away, with Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren providing key contributions.

Alex Caruso Remains A Courtside King With His Tactics

If anything, Alex Caruso has quietly built a reputation as one of the NBA’s most unpredictable players, and his recent stretch has only reinforced that identity.

Last week, the Oklahoma guard went viral after attempting one of the most unusual defensive plays in recent memory. After losing his shoe mid-play, Alex Caruso picked it up and tried to block Tristan da Silva’s layup attempt with it.

The move drew immediate confusion and a technical foul, as NBA rules prohibit using objects to make a play.

After the game, the veteran admitted the decision was instinctive. “I’ve never been in that situation before… I just thought I was gonna block it,” he said, acknowledging he did not anticipate the penalty.

That moment followed another viral sequence earlier this season, when he was involved in a heated sideline exchange with former teammate LeBron James. Audio later revealed the conversation was less personal than it appeared, with the Thunder guard urging James to focus amid frustration with officiating.

Together, these incidents are what make Alex Caruso unique. He operates on instinct, often pushing the boundaries of conventional play, whether through defensive creativity or everything else.
