Alex Caruso gives honest opinion on guarding ‘dangerous’ Stephen Curry, makes ‘illegal screens’ argument

Alex Caruso, like many others in the NBA, gets worried when he has to guard Stephen Curry.

Stephen Curry is, without a doubt, one of the greatest offensive players in NBA history. The Golden State Warriors guard has established his legacy as an all-time great

Curry is responsible for the rise of three-point shooting in the NBA. His ability to sink the ball from any distance made him an incredibly dangerous player, while inspiring a generation of sharpshooters.

But the former MVP is in a class above everyone else. In fact, Curry holds many of the NBA’s three-point shooting records.

A lot of the shots he generates are because of his blinding speed. As a smaller guard, Curry is much faster than most NBA stars.

As such, guarding Curry is a gargantuan task. One of the best on-ball defenders in the NBA, Alex Caruso, can vouch for this, having battled Curry on numerous occasions.

Alex Caruso says Stephen Curry and Draymond Green make life difficult for teams

Alex Caruso was a guest on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday. During the interview, the two-time NBA champion spoke about his experience guarding Stephen Curry.

Caruso acknowledged that Curry is actually more dangerous without the ball, as he activates the Warriors’ ball movement by running around.

He also joked that Draymond Green and Curry often get away with illegal screens during games when they make plays together.

“That’s the biggest thing that people talk about. I don’t know if regular NBA fans understand the scouting report of him is – he’s most dangerous when he gives the ball up. Because even when he comes down, he gives the ball up. Now, all of a sudden, they’re going into movement.

“Him and Draymond are so connected. He knows exactly where to go, how to make the reads. And as a defender, I always think that people set illegal screens, and they get away with a couple.”

Golden State Warriors are struggling to build around superstar pairing

Unfortunately for Stephen Curry, as unguardable as he may be, he doesn’t yet have the roster pieces he needs around him.

The Warriors have been remarkably quiet this offseason, not adding a single name to their roster through free agency or any trades.

Green told the Warriors how to build around Curry and Jimmy Butler. But the team’s front office has yet to do anything meaningful to upgrade its roster.

The Warriors are set to sign Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton in the coming weeks. But that doesn’t seem like enough to make a serious title push next season.

Compared to the heavy hitters in the Western Conference, the Warriors have a largely mediocre roster, barring any major moves in the coming months.
