Amazon is reportedly making a major hire for their NBA coverage that could also signal a pursuit for a stronger long-term relationship with Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry.

Amazon plans to hire Dell Curry as an analyst for their NBA coverage, according to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports. Curry is a longtime color commentator for the Charlotte Hornets, and it remains to be seen how involved he will be in Amazon’s NBA coverage.

Dell Curry may be the draw for now, but Amazon may have greater ambitions when it comes to making this hire. McCarthy suggests that hiring Dell now could be an effort to further the streaming giant’s relationship with Steph with the aim of recruiting the Warriors guard whenever he retires.

Dell and Steph Curry are very close, so there is some merit to this thinking. It remains to be seen if Steph is even interested in doing television when his career ends, but Amazon would certainly want to put itself in the driver’s seat if he did make that decision.

Dell Curry joins a growing roster of big names that will be part of Amazon’s coverage, including Kevin Harlan as one of the lead voices. They are leaving nothing to chance as their broadcast coverage starts next season.
