Barack Obama is perhaps the most notable diehard fan of the Chicago Bulls. Obama's love and support for the Bulls have been pure and well-noted ever since.
Over the past few years, even when he was still the 44th President of the United States, the political icon found himself plenty of times rooting for the team just like a typical fan in the stands of the United Center. When he has an important work commitment in Chicago, Obama will always allot a fanboy time to watch a thrilling home game of his beloved squad.
Humble beginnings
Barack’s obsession with the Bulls can be traced to the late 80s when he moved and started his career as a community organizer in Chicago. At that time, he was captivated by the brilliance of Michael Jordan as the superstar bannered the franchise to a meteoric rise.
But as a young fresh graduate facing loan debts to fund his law education further, Obama himself encountered difficulties in tuning in to watch MJ’s brilliance in person. He admitted that being broke at that time, he couldn't afford the Bulls’ single home game ticket and even the discounted passes.
"When Michael first came to town, I didn't have the money to buy tickets for a Bulls game, even the discount ones back in the day," he recalled. "I was pretty broke."
Now at the top
Years passed, Obama gradually made progress in his political run and went on to become Illinois’ beloved senator. From there, the rest was just history.
As it is, he managed to compile plenty of money for himself and can finally watch any Bulls games he likes. While he won't be able to watch MJ on the court anymore, he still has a solid Chicago squad to support, led by both DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine currently.
