Michael Jordan, crew catch 442-pound marlin at tournament
Six-time NBA champion, Hall of Famer, and current Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan may eventually become the G.O.A.T. in a different sporting activity.
As noted by ESPN, Jordan and the crew for his "Catch 23" boat caught a blue marlin that weighed-in at 442.3-pounds during Tuesday's session of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in North Carolina.
Unfortunately for His Airness, he will need to find and reel-in an even more-impressive marlin before the end of Saturday's action. As Steve Reed of the Associated Press (h/t WRALSportsFan) explained, Jordan's fish, the fifth-largest of the tournament, isn't big enough to register in the money.
Only those in the top three earn payouts.
In an interview posted on the tournament's Facebook, Jordan explained that Morehead City, the tournament's location, is roughly 100 miles from where he grew up.
If Jordan and "Catch 23," named after the jersey number Jordan wore for the bulk of his NBA career, catch the first 500-pound marlin, they'd win a prize of $550,000.
The crew that catches the largest marlin wins $1.1 million.
