According to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports, Hall of Famer Steve Nash helped Jordan Ott get the Phoenix Suns coaching job.
Ott was an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets when Nash was the head coach.
What they liked about Ott was work ethic/drive and a different level of sophistication with his offensive system than the other candidates. Got seal of approval from Devin Booker. And Steve Nash had very positive feedback as well.

Nash still has a rapport with the Suns, who fired Mike Budenholzer after one season. Nash won two MVPs with Phoenix and is one of the best players in franchise history.
Ott is leaving a good gig in Cleveland. The Cavaliers had the top record in the East this year.
Meanwhile, the Suns were a walking disaster this season despite having Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. They were so bad that they didn’t even make the play-in tournament.
Phoenix is expected to trade Durant this offseason. Durant, 36, has one year left on his contract. The superstar will make $54,708,609 next season.
Hopefully, Ott doesn’t get fired after one season like Budenholzer and Frank Vogel. Since making the NBA Finals in 2021, the Suns haven’t even been back to the conference finals.
