Report: Warriors' 'Plan A' involves trading lottery picks for 'starting-caliber player in his prime'

The Golden State Warriors have made it abundantly clear that they're willing to trade the No. 7 and No. 14 overall picks in the 2021 NBA Draft. However, they will only do that if they are confident it makes them better in the present and future.

So, how committed are they to working out a deal?

"According to a league source, the Warriors' 'Plan A' is to package the Nos. 7 and 14 selections for a starting-caliber player in his prime," according to The San Francisco Chronicle's Connor Letourneau.

With Stephen Curry playing at an MVP level, Klay Thompson returning from injury and Draymond Green still finding ways to contribute, the Warriors believe they can be a true title contender next season.

Golden State has already been linked to Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard, Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal and Philadelphia 76ers defensive stalwart Ben Simmons.

The argument against trading the Nos. 7 and 14 picks is that the Warriors would be giving up pieces that could potentially be part of their future. But considering Curry is still performing at a high level, Golden State knows it might only have so much time left to win another title before its core is gone.
