Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and LeBron James predict their successors

LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry have carried the NBA for over a decade, but the future Hall of Famers have either passed their prime or are near the end of it.

As the league prepares to turn a new leaf, the aging stars were posed the same question over All-Star Weekend: Who are your successors?

Curry picked the trio of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards, all of whom are candidates to win the MVP this season.

"I think the more you understand the authenticity around it, and like me and Bron and KD, have done it and tried to do that in our way, where it might look different for different guys," Curry said, via ESPN. "But the league is in pretty good hands when it comes to young talent that I think gets it and understands the magnitude of the platform we all have."

Durant didn't restrict his list to just three players, instead naming up to six players who can carry the mantle from himself, James and Curry.

"You see Shai and Book, Luka, Tyrese Maxey, Tyrese Haliburton, and so many guys that are aspiring the next generation to become basketball players that you can't just pinpoint it to one or two guys," Durant said, via Sports Illustrated. "It's about pushing the game forward, setting a different standard of how we play, and these guys are doing it right now."

And finally, James is taking a wait-and-see approach before anointing his successor.

"I don't think you just say, 'OK, well, this guy's the next person," James said, via ESPN. "You have to just let it happen organically and see what happens. But we have some great, great players in this league that can carry anything if they put their minds where they want it."

To contextualize the collective dominance of James, Durant and Curry, one of the three has participated in every NBA Finals since 2011 with the only exceptions being 2021 when the Bucks faced the Suns and 2023 when the Heat faced the Nuggets.
