Four games into the season, Giannis Antetokounmpo is making a strong case as the best player on the planet, while the Milwaukee Bucks are looking every bit like championship contenders. Antetokounmpo is putting up 36.3 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists per game, leading Milwaukee in every major category while shooting an incredible 69.5 percent from the field.
Lately, much of the media attention surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo has revolved around possible trade scenarios.
That is not surprising, since he remains one of the biggest names in basketball, even if the Milwaukee Bucks are not considered one of the league’s most prestigious franchises.
“When have we ever seen a player get a ring and then just universally have the media decide that he needs to play somewhere else?” Jason Fitz asked on Yahoo Sports Daily.
It may still be early in the season, but at 3-1 the Bucks already look like one of the stronger teams in the Eastern Conference. They also happen to have the best player on the court most nights. Instead of focusing on how well Milwaukee is playing, many media outlets, large and small, have chosen to chase trade rumors rather than break down the actual basketball.
“We watch greatness from Giannis night in and night out, week in and week out, month in and month out, and instead of ever just stopping and appreciating it, all we ever do is decide that he needs to play somewhere else,” he continued.
This year, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s name has surfaced in trade rumors involving the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and Los Angeles Lakers
After repeatedly brushing off trade rumors and emphasizing his desire to spend his entire career with one franchise, perhaps it’s time to take Giannis at his word.
Most trades in the NBA do not happen suddenly or without warning. The Luka Doncic situation was a rare case. Players like Anthony Davis with the New Orleans Pelicans and Jimmy Butler with the Miami Heat both requested trades but still waited weeks before their moves were finalized.
If Giannis ever gets traded, the media will have more than enough time to report on it when it becomes real. Until then, all the speculation is nothing more than noise.
