The Lakers' star players and front office have been heavily recruiting Drummond, selling him on the opportunity to step into the defending champions' starting lineup, Wojnarowski adds.
L.A. has seen inconsistent play from Marc Gasol and Montrezl Harrell this season, which will allow Drummond to step in and immediately make an impact in the paint and on the glass.
Drummond was also reportedly considering the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte Hornets, among a few others.
The 27-year-old agreed to a buyout after one-and-a-half seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He hasn't played in a game since Feb. 12, after the Cavs traded for Jarrett Allen and his role was diminished.
In 25 games with Cleveland this season, Drummond averaged 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 47.4% from the field. He'll now join a Lakers squad that could very well go up against the powerhouse Brooklyn Nets in the NBA Finals.
