Andre Drummond Signing One-Year Deal With Knicks

Based on the reported terms, Drummond will receive a minimum-salary deal. The 14-year veteran will earn $3.88MM in 2026/27, while New York will carry a $2.45MM cap hit.

A two-time All-Star and four-time rebounding champion earlier in his career, Drummond has bounced around the league over the past handful of years after spending most of his first eight NBA seasons with Detroit. He has played for the Sixers the past two seasons — his second stint with the team — and also spent time with Cleveland, the Lakers, Brooklyn and Chicago.

Drummond remained one of the league’s top rebounders on a per-minute basis in 2025/26. In 63 appearances last season, including 25 starts, he averaged 6.4 points and 8.4 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per game.

Drummond also flashed the ability to hit the occasional outside shot last season, having made 35.6% of his 1.4 threes per game. It was the first season of his career in which he really tried to stretch the floor.

The ninth overall pick in the 2012 draft, Drummond is a native of Mount Vernon, New York. He turns 33 years old next month and will provide a large and experienced presence in the middle as a backup to Karl-Anthony Towns.

While Drummond certainly doesn’t have the defensive or finishing abilities (or mobility) of Mitchell Robinson, he does approximate some of his rebounding prowess. Robinson, New York’s longtime center, agreed to a three-year, $47.1MM deal with Boston. German big man Ariel Hukporti, the Knicks’ third-string center, is signing a one-year deal with Philadelphia.

Owner James Dolan said shortly after the Knicks won the title that he was unwilling to exceed the second tax apron. Robinson was the primary casualty of that decision, and now New York will bring in an older, cheaper replacement to try to replicate some of what he brought to the table.
