Many have maintained that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will never surpass NBA legend Michael Jordan.
On Friday, James said: Hold my beer.
The 40-year-old forward beat Jordan's record for the most career 30-point games in NBA history with his 563rd in the Lakers' win over the Atlanta Hawks, 119-102, at Crypto.com Arena. James scored a team-high 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting.
It's the latest among several records James has snatched from Jordan, including the most consecutive games with at least 10 points. He has 1,253 and counting.
When told about James' newest feat, fellow Lakers superstar Anthony Davis had a tongue-in-cheek response.
"It bothers me," joked Davis in a video posted by ESPN's Dave McMenamin on X. "It took him seven more seasons (than Jordan).
"No, somebody said that earlier but I don't really think of it like that. Actually, growing up, (I watched) LeBron, that was my era. So, I mean, that's obviously a hell of an accomplishment. I think he's probably No. 1 at everything at this point."
Davis returned from a one-game absence to rest his ankle and had a double-double of 18 points and 19 rebounds on top of three blocks against the Hawks.
Though hilarious, Davis' joke might fuel James' haters—especially those who pick Jordan in the GOAT debate—who usually discredit the Lakers veteran's longevity.
James captured the record, which Jordan set in his 15th and last season in 2003, with a fadeaway jumper in the final six minutes of the game.
"Anytime I'm mentioned with any of the greats, and arguably the greatest ever to play the game, (that's) super cool," said James, as quoted by McMenamin. "It's someone I idolized in my childhood, and I wear 23 because of him."
