Anthony Davis Injury Update Emerges Before Heat Game

The Dallas Mavericks have been without Anthony Davis’ services for the past 13 games. The last time the 6-foot-10 forward-center saw action was on Oct. 29 in a game against the Indiana Pacers. Davis, who is currently nursing a lingering calf injury, has made just five appearances for the Mavs this season, averaging 20.8 points on 52.0% shooting, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

Dallas is back in action on Monday as they battle the Miami Heat in a road matchup at Kaseya Center, and an interesting development surrounding Davis emerged ahead of the game.

It has been a tumultuous start to the season for Davis. He first injured his calf in late October, and he has since been working his way back to action. On Nov. 12, a report surfaced that Davis’ personal medical team was pushing for his return already. However, team owner Mark Dumont stepped in and prevented this from happening.

Dumont reportedly did not want to give Davis the green light to play unless he was presented with a medical document indicating that there was no risk of the NBA champion big man potentially aggravating the injury.

On Nov. 16, the Mavs announced that Davis still wasn’t ready to return. The team stated that the 10-time All-Star would need to be re-evaluated in seven to 10 days. As of Monday, it has already been eight days since Dallas’ last update.

Interestingly, the Mavs decided to upgrade Davis’ status for the Heat game. As of writing, the five-time All-NBA forward-center is listed as doubtful to play against Miami, per the official injury report.

The doubtful tag indicates that he will likely sit out for a 14th straight contest, but the fact that the Mavs did not rule him out completely could mean that Davis is getting close.

It is worth noting, however, that the Mavs also listed their prized big man as doubtful for their Nov. 16 game against the Portland Trail Blazers. This was one day before Dallas announced the 7- to 10-day re-evaluation window.

If Davis sits out again on Monday, his next chance to return would be on Friday. That would be an opportune time for Davis to make his comeback as the Mavs travel to Hollywood to face his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers.
