Anthony Davis has yet to make his debut for the Washington Wizards following a midseason trade. The Wizards acquired Davis from the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 5 in a major trade that reshaped their roster.

The Wizards want Davis to help guide the team’s emerging young talent and boost its defense. However, his injuries have forced a temporary pause on those plans, at least on the court.

The 10-time All-Star is currently sidelined due to ligament damage in his left hand. The injury occurred on Jan. 8 while playing for Dallas against the Utah Jazz. He did not require surgery but initially expected to miss about six weeks to let the ligament heal naturally.

On Thursday, the Wizards announced that the 6-foot-10 forward will remain sidelined for at least two more weeks before his next re-evaluation. This 2025-26 season has been plagued by injuries for Davis. He has appeared in only 20 games with the Dallas Mavericks before his mid-season trade. His missed time also includes an earlier calf strain and groin injury.

But even as he remains sidelined by injuries, Davis is focused on building a resilient culture for his new team. In a recent interview, the veteran center emphasized that a team’s success is defined by how it endures adversity.

“Everybody wants to win a championship,” Davis said. “But can your team stay together when you lose three, four games in a row? That’s the sign of a true championship team where nothing rattles you.”

Davis’ remarks could serve as a guiding message for the Wizards, who have spent the past years strengthening their team and developing young talent. He believes staying “unrattled” during losing streaks and keeping focused are pivotal in building a championship culture.

The All-Star forward brings championship experience. He captured his first and only NBA title in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, the years since that title have been turbulent. Davis has battled a series of injuries that have repeatedly limited his availability and interrupted team flow.

Davis also won a national championship with the Kentucky Wildcats in 2012. The 10-time All-Star has also won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA, in 2012 and 2024.

Now with the Wizards, his injury history continues to raise questions about his durability and ability to remain consistently on the court. Some analysts and fans wonder whether he can replicate the success he had with the Lakers on his new team.

Davis has yet to resume on-court activity since sustaining the injury in Dallas. Washington is managing his recovery, with no definite schedule set for his comeback.
