Anthony Edwards openly questioned Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic’s approach to the NBA All-Star Game.
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard, who earned All-Star Game MVP honors, raised concerns about the effort level of two of the league’s top international stars.
His remarks quickly intensified the broader discussion surrounding competitiveness during All-Star Weekend.
Team World failed to secure a win in the new USA vs. World mini-tournament format. Edwards indicated the results may have been different if Doncic and Jokic had played with greater intensity.
Before elaborating, he emphasized that his comments were not meant as disrespect. He then explained his perspective directly.
“No shade towards Luka and Jokic, but they are two of the best players in the league, and they are not trying to play in the All-Star Game.”
Both Doncic and Jokic logged limited minutes during the event. Doncic recorded two points and two assists, while Jokic finished scoreless with two rebounds.
Each player entered the weekend managing injuries, which likely influenced their participation levels. Doncic had been dealing with a hamstring issue, and Jokic recently returned from a knee injury before the break.
Still, Edwards’ comments reflect a larger frustration about the intensity of the All-Star showcase. The NBA has introduced multiple format changes in recent seasons in an attempt to raise the competitive standard.
Edwards totaled 32 points across the mini-tournament and helped guide Team Stars to the championship. His high-energy performance stood in contrast to what he perceived as a lack of urgency from others.
While the remarks are not expected to spark a lasting feud, they underscore the continuing debate about how seriously players should treat the midseason exhibition.
