The NFL and the NBA are totally different sports. But that doesn’t stop NBA players from saying they could play in the NFL, or vice versa. Some have the body build to at least try out. OKC’s Lu Dort, who gets into frequent on-court skirmishes, gets a ton of mentions. What about Anthony Edwards? He certainly has plans to do so.

Before diving into ANT’s dream to play in the NFL, fans may ask if he’s ever played competitive football in his life. The answer is yes, but he switched to competitive basketball in middle school. He was a standout running back in his youth, but he stopped playing at 13.

Curiously, despite being one of the best in the league, Anthony Edwards teased the possibility of playing in the NFL when asked about it.

“Trying to find a way to get a ring. When I get one before I turn 30, I’ll definitely go try to play football,” Edwards said. When asked about what position he’s playing, Edwards said, “I’ll probably say [wide] receiver.”

At 24 years old, Edwards still has six years left in his basketball career before his self-imposed deadline to win a ring. If there’s an NBA player who should have played in the NFL, then that’s former nine-year pro, Charlie Ward.

Before playing in the NBA, Ward won the Heisman Trophy in 1993 as the quarterback of the Florida State Seminoles.

Anthony Edwards Warned About His Recent Outburst

There’s no question that Edwards is rapidly rising as a global basketball star. He’s transformed the Minnesota Timberwolves from being a fringe playoff team to a possible title contender. But because of his unrelenting pursuit of success, he’s had some spats with his coach, Chris Finch.

And Charles Barkley isn’t too fond of Edwards’ outburst directed at this coach. “I think Anthony has to be careful… Anthony is a great player, but if Anthony is not gonna listen to the coach, he kind of handicaps the coach. The other players are watching like ‘You let Ant do stuff! You can’t talk to me. I did the same thing Ant did!” Chuck said.

Barkley has a point, but Anthony Edwards is the leader of the Wolves. He’s not shy in voicing his preferences, either.
