Anthony Edwards Explains What Went Wrong For Timberwolves After Second Straight Loss

Anthony Edwards explained after Game 2 what went wrong for him and the Timberwolves. Ant pointed the finger at himself, stating that he had been too passive and given up shots, even though he was trying to make the right play. He then added that despite going down 0-2, he and the Timberwolves still have life, pointing to the Nuggets series as an example of their survival.

“They’re just showing me crowds man, sitting in the gaps. But I’m turning down a lot of shots, like my midranges and stuff, I’m turning a lot of those down. But we getting open looks, so I ain't tripping… They’re open, so I’m making the right play. But sometimes the right play may be to just shoot it… I mean. We were down 3-2. We were up 2-0, and they came and won two at the crib, and then won one at their crib. We’ve been here before. I don’t think anyone in the locker room is panicking. I hope not. Just come out and play our brand of basketball. We let them make a run, we’re supposed to go up big but, they made a run and cut it right before the half. We made some mistakes but we’ll be alright.”

Edwards had yet another rough outing against the Mavericks, putting up 21 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. He went 5 for 17 from the field, and 2 for 7 from the three-point line. Ant's struggles in the Western Conference Finals continued tonight, and he will look to turn things around in Game 3.

So far, Edwards has averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.5 assists in the Western Conference Finals. In comparison, he is averaging 27.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists across the entire playoffs. It is clear to see that his numbers have gone down since the Timberwolves eliminated the Nuggets.

Can Anthony Edwards And The Timberwolves Bounce Back?

Anthony Edwards is the leader of the Timberwolves and carries the weight of expectation on his shoulders during these playoffs. After Game 1, Ant claimed that fatigue cost the Timberwolves the win, but still maintained that he and the rest of the team had to play better going forward.

“I don’t know, I think we just came out flat today. We found our energy then we went back to being flat. I think it was just on us. Everything was on us today. I didn’t get downhill as much. Just stuff like that, we were probably just a little tired, probably."

Chris Finch will not be happy with the way his team performed tonight. He called out his players for their poor performance after Game 1. It wouldn't be surprising to see Finch dish out some tough love once again after a disappointing Game 2 performance.

The Timberwolves now face the daunting task of going on the road and getting wins, as they travel to Dallas for Games 3 and 4 against the Mavericks. With how Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have been playing, a 2-0 deficit might be too much for the Timberwolves to overcome.
