Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is amid another impressive season in his fifth NBA campaign. Entering Thursday's contest against the Los Angeles Lakers, Edwards was averaging 27.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists. That scoring average is a career high for Edwards, as he has increased his points per game each season of his career.

In the first half of Tuesday's contest against Los Angeles, Edwards got into it with Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt. The two were separated by officials after exchanging one-arm shoves and some words.

Vanderbilt and Edwards were teammates on the Timberwolves, adding an interesting dynamic to Thursday's exchange.

Edwards received a technical foul, which is his 15th already this season. The NBA automatically suspends players who tally 16 in one season.

"Status alert: Anthony Edwards has been assessed 15th technical foul," Underdog NBA posted on X. "If he receives one more, he'll be automatically suspended one game."

Minnesota entered this game with a 32-27 record that ranked eighth in the Western Conference standings. Just a half-game behind the sixth seed Los Angeles Clippers and just a half-game above the ninth seed Dallas Mavericks, each game is crucial for Minnesota.

In the third quarter against Los Angeles, Edwards picked up another technical foul, prompting his ejection.

Edwards will now be suspended, unless one of his technicals is rescinded.

"Status alert: Anthony Edwards has been assessed 16th technical foul," Underdog NBA posted. "Edwards will be suspended for Friday's game unless a technical foul is rescinded.

Per FOX Sports, Edwards leads the NBA with 16 technical fouls. Draymond Green, Dillon Brooks and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope each have 11, which is the next closest tally to Edwards' league-leading mark.

It is worth noting that Edwards tallied 15 technical fouls last season, and was able to avoid the dreaded 16th that triggers an automatic suspension. Prior to last season, Edwards' career-high in technical fouls was 13 during the 2022-23 campaign.

Unlike he did a year ago, Edwards was unable to avoid a 16th technical foul, and is now facing suspension.
