Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is in Year 5 of his NBA career and has quickly become a household name. He’s most known for his athleticism, scoring ability, and fearless performances in big moments.
Lately, though, he’s adding a new reputation to the mix — one for his trash talk and on-court antics. Between his obscene gestures and constant trash talk, Edwards has racked up a boatload of fines and technical fouls this season.
The 23-year-old picked up 17 technical fouls during the regular season, which earned him a one-game suspension in the final game of the year.
And during the Timberwolves’ 117-95 win over the Lakers in Game 1 of their first-round NBA playoff series, Edwards found himself in trouble again.
He was fined $50,000 for an exchange with a Lakers fan that happened with 4:33 left in the third quarter. He used inappropriate language and made an obscene gesture toward the fan. A video of it quickly went viral afterward.
That fine brought Edwards' total season tally to $370,000. While that’s just a small fraction of his $42.2 million salary in 2024-25, it’s still a hefty number to rack up in one year.
In fact, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard has racked up more in fines than the highest-paid WNBA player will earn in the entire 2025 season — Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell, who’s set to make $249,244.
Edwards will look to keep his cool as the Timberwolves return home to host the Lakers for Game 3. After their dominant Game 1 win, Minnesota dropped Game 2 by a score of 94-85 on Tuesday night. Game 3 is set for Friday, with tipoff at 9:30 p.m. ET.
