Anthony Edwards Receives Stern Message From Charles Barkley on Sunday

Anthony Edwards is indeed putting together a solid season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are currently fifth in the Western Conference standings with their 37-23 record. The 24-year-old is averaging 29.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.

They are coming off a two-game winning streak following the All-Star break and are scheduled to face the Denver Nuggets tonight.

But before the tip-off, Ant faced minor controversy over his leadership style and the maturity he showed during the 94-88 win over the LA Clippers on Thursday.

Earlier in the fourth quarter, with the Timberwolves leading by one point (89-88) and roughly 43 seconds remaining, Edwards hit a step-back three-pointer over two defenders to extend the lead to four. Immediately after the shot, cameras captured Edwards shouting directly at head coach Chris Finch, saying, "That's what I do! That's what the [expletive] I do!"

The moment has since turned viral online, and NBA legend Charles Barkley had something to say about it. Chuck wasn't putting doubt on Edwards' skill, but he was flagging the optics.

"I think Anthony has to be careful," Barkley said on TNT's “Inside the NBA.” "Anthony is a great player, but if Anthony's not gonna listen to the coach, he kind of handicaps the coach. The other players are watching like, 'You let Ant do stuff! You can't talk to me. I did the same thing Ant did!'"

It's a fair point from Chuck, who knows how locker rooms work. Team chemistry runs on more than just results. So, Edwards needs to be more careful about when to follow his coach’s direction and when to trust his own judgment.

However, after the game, Ant said the outburst happened because Finch told him to pass more after he missed a mid-range shot earlier. Edwards fired back in the heat of the moment to prove he could make the big plays. Both have since brushed off any tension, describing their relationship as a productive "tug-of-war."
