Anthony Edwards receiving high praise for Team USA performance

Anthony Edwards, the three-year guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, is turning heads during his Team USA performances. In their recent match against Germany, the guard went off for 34 points and led the comeback for the USA to take home the win.

With the win, Team USA improved to 5-0 in exhibition play, and despite trailing by as much as 16, they proved to be one of the best teams out there and one of the favorites to win it all.

Head coach Steve Kerr praised Edwards' performance and role on the team, as he has become the leader of the group as they play in national competitions.

"He's, unquestionably, the guy," Kerr said. "You can see he knows it. But now the team knows it, and I think the fans see it. ... He genuinely believes he's the best player in the gym every night. And he's such a dynamic young player. I think he's taking a leap."

Following the performance, Kendrick Perkins Tweeted that he believed Edwards had become the new face of the NBA, surpassing the likes of LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokić.

After the game, Edwards had little to say beyond the fact that he has enjoyed his time playing on this stage and how fun playing has been.

"Man, this was fun. I ain't have fun like this in a minute. So yeah, this was super exciting. We were down 15, so that was adversity," Edwards said.

Through the five undefeated exhibition games, he averaged 18.8 points on 50% shooting with 4.6 rebounds per game.

Following Sunday's win over Germany, Team USA has an extended break before beginning group play against New Zealand on Aug. 26, Greece on Aug. 28 and Jordan on Aug. 30.
