Anthony Edwards has been basking in the glory of the Minnesota Timberwolves' triumph over the Los Angeles Lakers in five games in the first round of the playoffs. Edwards has been running his mouth and revealed how he talked trash to a Lakers fan in Game 5 on the fourth episode of Year Five with Anthony Edwards.
"[He] said, 'You're 0-for-11 from three, stop shooting,'" Edwards stated. "I said, "Y'all finna lose, go home. Beat the traffic.'"
That was savage. Lose is what the Lakers did, as the Timberwolves won 103-96 to knock them out of the playoffs.
Edwards had his worst outing of the series in Game 5, but it didn't matter. The 23-year-old finished with 15 points (5-19 FG), 11 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in the win.
Edwards missed all 11 of the threes he took, and he wasn't the only one on the Timberwolves who struggled with the outside shot. They went a miserable 7-47 from beyond the arc in Game 5. Their 40 misses were the most in a playoff game in NBA history, and they still emerged victorious.
Getting the win despite shooting that terribly against a team with Luka Doncic and LeBron James has given Edwards even more belief in the Timberwolves' chances moving forward. He stated during this episode that he isn't worried about facing anyone now.
"Bro, we shot 7-47 from three and we beat Luka and LeBron," Edwards stated. "I think they the best closers in the game, so who the f*** we worried about?"
Well, the next obstacle in Edwards and the Timberwolves' way is the Golden State Warriors or the Houston Rockets. It had looked very likely that the Warriors would be the ones the Timberwolves would face, but they have somewhat fallen apart recently.
The Rockets were down 3-1 in the series but have now tied it at 3-3. Game 7 is in Houston, and the Warriors will need to be at their best to avoid the embarrassment of blowing another 3-1 lead in the playoffs.
You wonder how much gas will be left in the tank for either the Rockets or the Warriors after the series. They have had some bruising battles, and the Timberwolves would have loved every second of it. They are well-rested and would be raring to go in Game 1.
Whoever faces the Timberwolves can expect a whole lot of trash-talking from Edwards. He was even talking trash to James in Game 5 and has made it clear no one is going to be pushing him and his team around.
Adidas hailed Edwards as the "King Slayer" after the series. The three-time All-Star has taken down some of the biggest names in the league in the postseason over the last year.
It was Kevin Durant and Devin Booker in the first round in 2024 and then Nikola Jokic in the Conference Semifinals. It would be quite something if Edwards ends up knocking Stephen Curry out of the playoffs as well.
While the Timberwolves deserve a lot of respect for what they've done in the playoffs so far, you still wouldn't have them as the favorite to even make the Finals from the West. That would still be the Oklahoma City Thunder, but a series between these teams could prove to be quite fascinating.
