Anthony Edwards Reveals Surprising Pick For Timberwolves ‘Most Important Player’
Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to take things to the next level during the 2023-24 NBA season. They have made the postseason in two consecutive years, the first time since they made it eight straight times from 1997-2004.

A big reason for their recent success is shooting guard Anthony Edwards. He has turned himself into one of the best young players in the NBA as this is starting to look more and more like his team.

Coming off his first All-Star appearance and back-to-back excellent individual performances in the postseason, it would be easy to say that Edwards is the most important player on the Timberwolves. However, in his opinion, such a title should go to someone else.

When talking to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Edwards revealed that the most important player on the team is forward Jaden McDaniels. The third-year player spoke glowingly of his teammate and is looking forward to seeing him take that next step in his own career.

“Jaden is the most important person on the team, for sure, because he has the most potential,” Edwards said. “I think the world knows we wouldn’t be the Minnesota Timberwolves without Jaden McDaniels. So yeah, I’m looking forward to him having a phenomenal season.”

The Timberwolves certainly felt strongly about McDaniels as he wasn’t included in trade talks when the team acquired Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz. A first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Washington, McDaniels has rewarded the team with improvements each season he has been in the NBA.

A stellar two-way performer, the former Husky is the kind of glue guy that every successful team has. He chips in across the board and is appreciative of the compliments that Edwards gave to him. He was just as complimentary to his teammates when speaking about him.

“We both want to see each other succeed,” McDaniels said. “We both love each other’s game. Ant could do anything he wanted on the court at any time. That’s something I want to get to and be able to be the Ant and Jaden team. Just continuing to work and get better.”

Edwards and McDaniels are two of the cornerstones of the Timberwolves. Their continued development and ascension will help the team get to the levels they are hoping to achieve as soon as this season.
