After going 4-0 in the regular season matchups during the 2024-25 season, the Denver Nuggets finally got their payback against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 123-112 win on Saturday. Anthony Edwards did not have the best performance, which he blames himself for.

Over the past two years, the Minnesota Timberwolves have had an edge over their Northwest Division rivals, the Denver Nuggets. Unfortunately, the Timberwolves’ dominance was finally broken during the Saturday night game as the Nuggets won 123-112.

It was a long time coming for the Nuggets, as they have been seeking a win over their rivals for some time. Nikola Jokic was excellent once again with a 27-point, 12-rebound, and 11-assist triple-double. However, he had three other teammates who scored 20 points or more, including a standout night from the Nuggets’ underrated signing, Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Timberwolves had a decent performance led by Julius Randle’s efficient 26 points. On the other side, Anthony Edwards also scored 26 points, but he was missing a lot of shots, going 0-for-8 from beyond the arc and 8-for-23 from the field.

Edwards believes he was the reason behind the Timberwolves’ loss

The Timberwolves suffered their fifth loss of the season, which snapped a four-game winning streak. It was a winnable game, as most of the Timberwolves played well, like Randle and Naz Reid. However, Edwards’ inefficiency from the field might have been the deciding factor, considering the Timberwolves have some weaknesses when Edwards is not firing on both ends.

For Edwards, he knows that was the reason, as he feels his misses were too much for the Timberwolves to overcome. Taking eight threes without a make was rough for the Timberwolves, as Reid was the only player to make more than one against Denver.

Compare those made three-pointers to Jokic, Hardaway, and Aaron Gordon, who together took 18 threes and made 12. It was a brutal loss for the Timberwolves because they knew they had the Nuggets’ number over the past year.

“They scored the ball and we didn’t… Nothing they did, I just got to make my shots. It’s that simple. We missed a bunch of shots. Go to the gym tomorrow, and make them,” Edwards said after the loss to the Nuggets.

“That’s why I’m pissed. He (Reid) had a big game tonight, and we didn’t close it out for him. I blame myself for this one. If I make my shots, we win the game. I think we lost by 11 points. Whatever shots I take, I’ve got to make them.”

Edwards will do his best to bounce back

Timberwolves fans have grown accustomed to seeing Edwards bounce back after he has a rough game. He is one of the most driven superstars in the league, so he will go back to the gym and keep shooting until he feels confident in his shot again.

The loss to Denver was an anomaly of a performance for Edwards, as he was the most prolific three-point shooter in the 2024-25 season. Despite the horrible shooting night from beyond the arc, Edwards is still averaging 46.2% from three-point range. Edwards wants to get back to that and prove that he is one of the league’s most dangerous shooters.

The Timberwolves will expect him to have another strong string of performances. The next two games are against the struggling Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards. These are the perfect games for Edwards to get back on track and forget what happened against the Nuggets.
