Anthony Edwards, Wolves Say They’re Staying Locked In With 3-1 Series Lead

With the Timberwolves trailing at the break and the energy drained inside Chase Center, Anthony Edwards didn’t wait for a coach to light the fire.

He took it upon himself.

“I told them, ‘We only got two wins,’” Edwards said after Minnesota’s Game 4 victory over the Warriors, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “I’ve never seen a series end 2-1. I told them we have to get two more wins and right now we’re playing like we already got four wins.”

Message delivered. Message received.

Minnesota responded with a massive 39-17 third quarter, fueled by Edwards’ 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. It marked the largest point differential in any playoff quarter in franchise history, according to McMenamin. Just as important, it flipped what looked like a sluggish, unfocused performance into a commanding Game 4 win and a 3-1 series lead.

As The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski noted, the Wolves nearly undid the turnaround by easing off the gas, allowing Golden State to trim a 21-point deficit to just seven in the final frame. Still, the Timberwolves regrouped, steadied the ship, and now return home for a potential closeout in Game 5.

Guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker emphasized the importance of staying locked in.

“Have to be present and understand that these are situations that are pivotal,” he said. “You have a chance to close out on your home court as opposed to having to go elsewhere and try to win and then do it again and come back on the road and travel.”

So yes, the Timberwolves are one win away. But as Edwards made clear, they don’t plan to celebrate anything just yet.
