The Boston Celtics were defeated by the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, losing three games in a row to end the series. While getting to the Finals was a good achievement for the team, the conclusion of that series was definitely disappointing for fans of the franchise.

Former Celtics All-Star Antoine Walker has recently claimed that the Miami Heat would have had a better chance of winning against the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals, claiming that the Celtics "gave Golden State that championship".

“I think they would have had a better shot. I don’t know if they could have scored enough to keep up with the Warriors, but defensively they would have been so stingy.

“And that’s where the Heat, and the game plan would have been a lot different than the Celtics. I hate to take away from Golden State, but if you go back and watch the film, Boston gave Golden State that championship.”

The Miami Heat were definitely a more veteran team than the Boston Celtics, and they are well-known for their physicality and their defense. Jimmy Butler was also spectacular in the playoffs. While it is unclear if the Miami Heat could have won the championship against the Golden State Warriors, it is easy to see why Antoine Walker believes that they would have been more of a challenge.

Both the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat should be contenders in the Eastern Conference once again next season. The goal for both teams will be getting to the Finals, and anything less will likely be viewed as a disappointment considering the talent level on both squads.

Hopefully, we see the Boston Celtics bounce back next year. This Finals loss will likely provide a lot of motivation for them. It'll be interesting to see if they can finish the job next season, but what's absolutely clear is that the Celtics will be an exciting team over the next few years.
