The assumption around the NBA is that Al Horford will eventually sign with the Golden State Warriors, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
The Warriors expected Horford to sign with them last week, but the veteran didn’t.
Horford is an unrestricted free agent. He will not return to the Boston Celtics.

The Warriors haven’t signed anyone this offseason. They lost Kevon Looney to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Golden State beat the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in seven games but lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round in five games. NBA icon Stephen Curry injured his left hamstring in Game 1 against the Timberwolves and missed the rest of the series.
Al Horford appeared in 60 games for the Celtics last season. The Florida product, who entered the NBA in 2007, averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 42.3% from the field, 36.3% from beyond the arc and 89.5% from the foul line.
The 39-year-old Horford has played for the Atlanta Hawks, Celtics (twice), Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder. He has career averages of 12.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
Horford has made five All-Star teams and won one championship. The Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals in five games.
Horford and the Celtics lost to the Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals in six games. Along with Golden State, Horford has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and Hawks, the team he began his career with.
The Warriors made a blockbuster trade last season, acquiring six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. Golden State went 23-7 in the regular season with Butler in the lineup.
It will be intriguing to see if Horford signs with the Warriors, who have won four championships in the Curry-Draymond Green era.
