Ausar Thompson hilariously walks back his comment about wanting ‘the biggest thing’

Ausar Thompson immediately asked for a mulligan after dropping a quote he probably felt the internet would use against him.

Just before the Detroit Pistons faced the Los Angeles Lakers at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich., on Monday, Thompson shared his thoughts on the Pistons becoming the first team in the Eastern Conference to secure a spot in the 2026 NBA Playoffs.

Thompson made it clear that he is after the main goal, which is an NBA title, but he immediately regretted the way he initially conveyed his opinion.

“I want the biggest thing,” Thompson said, before seemingly realizing that people on the internet could use his quote to ridicule him.

“Whoa whoa, my fault, I want to win a championship,” the 23-year-old Thompson clarified.

Thompson didn’t have to retract what he said because everyone knew what he was referring to, but he also knows how such a statement can be misconstrued and turned into meme material.

Then again, fewer people might have noticed it if he hadn’t reacted the way he did.

Thompson can’t be distracted by what other people think, as he and the Pistons are on a mission to win it all.

They extended their winning streak to four games and improved their East-leading record to 52-19 after outlasting the Lakers, 113-110, with Thompson contributing 6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in 36 minutes.
