Ben Simmons hasn't yet played a game during the 2021-22 season. He has cited his mental unreadiness to play as a reason for his reluctance and has reportedly been seeing NBPA provided professionals on the matter.

Ramona Shelburne previously revealed that Ben Simmons was unwilling to accept the team's help in addressing his mental health. However, Ben Simmons has recently changed his mind on the subject. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Ben Simmons reportedly met with a "team-recommended medical specialist" to talk about his mental health.

After initial resistance, Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard Ben Simmons met with a team-recommended medical specialist to discuss his mental health on Monday, sources told ESPN.

It is unclear what Monday's meeting means for the Sixers' ultimate hopes of a Simmons return to play, but it was a change of direction for Simmons in his dealings with the organization.

The Sixers had begun to fine Simmons for failing to live up to obligations in his contract after they found him to be uncooperative about partnering with them on his mental health and taking the steps needed to work together toward an eventual return to play. As part of the Sixers' requests, the team wanted him to meet with its own mental health professionals -- which Simmons finally did on Monday.

It remains to be seen if Ben Simmons will eventually suit up for the Philadelphia 76ers, but this seems like a step in the right direction. Of course, it's likely that his preference is still to move elsewhere, but he may have to play up his value to help the 76ers move him.

Hopefully, Ben Simmons figures things out with his mental health. That is an important issue not just in the NBA, but overall. It seems as though Simmons has been seeing professionals, and their aid can help a lot. Hopefully, Ben Simmons gets the help that he needs, and many fans are waiting for him to be able to play once again.
