Ben Simmons would welcome opportunity to play for Gregg Popovich

Ben Simmons’ ongoing drama with the Philadelphia 76ers is a matter of public record.

He wants out, they want him gone – and so on and so forth. All that remains at this point is settling on a price.

Over the last few weeks, Simmons’ camp has done a good job of leaking where he wants to end up. This week, a new report of that nature emerged.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Simmons would absolutely love to play with San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.

“The Spurs also know that Popovich’s presence still resonates with many players more than anything else San Antonio has to offer as a destination,” he wrote.

“Example: I’ve heard that Ben Simmons would welcome the opportunity to play for Popovich if the Spurs found a way to acquire him. San Antonio’s efforts to crash the trade hunt for Simmons have been well-chronicled, but Philadelphia remains intent on holding out for Portland’s Damian Lillard or another proven All-Star in a Simmons swap.”

Interestingly enough, just this week Philly let it be known that it was softening its trade demands for Simmons. Could something involving Dejounte Murray, who is averaging nearly 19 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists per game make sense?

Simmons is currently being linked prominently to two major trades: one three-teamer involving the Los Angeles Lakers and one involving the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Will the Spurs be able to sneak back into the hunt for the talented young star?
