Best Jarrett Allen trade destinations if Cavs break up Evan Mobley pairing

After the Cleveland Cavaliers exit in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, there was one glaring piece that was missing in the latter part of their playoff run. Jarrett Allen sustained a rib injury in Game 4 of their Round 1 series causing him to miss the last eight contests of the postseason. Furthermore, there were some reports mentioning that some Cavs teammates grew frustrated of Allen’s absence in the biggest stage of the season.

Being on the sideline hindered the front-court depth of Cleveland, but it also gave ample opportunity for Evan Mobley to thrive as the lone big man on the floor. In the current generation of the NBA, the Cavaliers is the lone organization that starts two bigs who are both non-shooters, so trading Allen in the offseason is a plausible scenario.

With the uncertainty of the future of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland, the Cavaliers can consider fortifying their rotation at the guard and wing positions. Thus, here are a couple of fantastic Jarrett Allen trade destinations.

Phoenix Suns

This would be the best-case scenario for the Phoenix Suns because Jarrett Allen is a clear upgrade from Jusuf Nurkic. The interior of the Suns was a massive hole that was exposed in their first-round matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but Allen will fill that void. However, the major issue is the Suns do not have enticing pieces that will convince the Cavaliers to pull the trigger.

Even if Allen in Phoenix seems like an intriguing situation, the feasibility is very low. Their draft capital is all gone from previous trades, most of their role players are free agents, and their other assets are not movable. A three-way trade is a possible outcome, so Phoenix must be aggressive in the negotiations if Cleveland puts Allen in the market.

New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans are in dire need of a replacement for Jonas Valanciunas, so Jarrett Allen’s presence will be utilized immensely.

A similar issue would be the spacing on the offensive end because Allen and Zion Williamson are not known for their shooting prowess, but the Pelicans’ defense will be lethal.

Moreover, their versatility and rebounding will also improve because Allen has shown the capability to thrive against small-ball lineups. The issue of inserting either Valanciunas or Larry Nance Jr. will be mitigated with Allen’s arrival. With a youthful core, the future in New Orleans seems bright, so the camp of Allen would be pleased to see him in a squad wherein there will be lasting success.

Oklahoma City Thunder

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Oklahoma City Thunder is the best Jarrett Allen trade destination. In the Thunder’s current series against the Dallas Mavericks, their weakness in the rebounding department is being heavily exposed by the Mavericks front court. The coaching staff has been overly reliant on Chet Holmgren’s frame, but his rebounding production has plummeted in the second round.

For the future of Holmgren’s career, it seems like he will be more effective if he constantly plays with a big like Allen. Holmgren can space the floor and attack mismatches in the four position, while Allen mans the paint and converts easy buckets from the dunker spot. Furthermore, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault will have the liberty of adding schemes on both offense and defense that will maximize the talent of Holmgren and Allen.
