Biggest Fix Knicks Must Make in 2025 NBA Offseason

The New York Knicks will head into Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals fighting for their playoff lives. If Saturday ends up being the day of elimination for the Knicks, this offseason will be a crucial one.

The talks of a Mikal Bridges extension will be the main focus for a lot of people. However, there are other areas of focus that will prove to be just as crucial. One, in particular, stands above the rest when it comes to its importance.

Knicks' biggest offseason fix will be necessary for championship hopes

Tom Thibodeau is a head coach infamous for his short rotations and the heavy minutes he extracts from his top players. It is a narrative not likely to go away any time soon.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report certainly did not shy away from bringing it up. The NBA writer highlighted 'finding more reserves who Thibs will trust' as the biggest fix needed for the Knicks this offseason.

Buckley wrote, "The collective workload of New York's first five feels like a team-wide temptation of fate. All five Knicks starters ranked among this season's top 25 in minutes per game."

The Bleacher Report writer added more to make his point.

"As a whole, New York's opening group logged 940 minutes together (not counting the playoffs). That not only easily paced the Association, it almost doubled the floor time of this season's third-most used lineup (the Pistons starters who played 491 minutes together).

While clearly a lot of this stems from Thibs' coaching philosophy, maybe the front office could get him to rethink things by giving him more reliable reserves than, say, streak-scorer Cameron Payne and rebounding specialist Precious Achiuwa.

That might be wishful thinking, but something needs to change with these seemingly untenable workloads."

Buckley does not sound like someone who is advocating for the Knicks head coach to fully overhaul his identity. Instead, the message here is one about giving the Thibodeau more tools he feels comfortable using.

If the Knicks cannot mount a comeback against the Indiana Pacers in their series, all avenues will be explored this offseason. A handful of crafty bargain-bin acquisition would go a long way in New York.
