Bill Simmons Claims Victor Wembanyama Has Grown Taller During Spurs Offseason

The San Antonio Spurs are heading into one of the most impactful offseasons in the franchise's modern history. With Victor Wembanyama leading the way, they look to push for their first playoff appearance since 2019.

Wembanyama received a mid-season blood clot diagnosis, which ended his year early and led to the Spurs crashing out of playoff contention. However, he's expected to return next season with all eyes on San Antonio to see how they build around their transformative center.

Wembanyama is officially listed as a 7'3-and-a-half-inch (7'5" with shoes) center, and has an eight-foot wingspan. He already holds the title of the best shot blocker in the NBA. His offensive skill set is unique, but he is also viewed by many as the best defender in the NBA.

His skill would be heightened if he were taller. There might be bad news for other NBA teams, as legendary insider Bill Simmons recently claimed on his podcast with Zach Lowe that Wembanyama has grown taller.

"He (expletive) grew an inch. Are you following this? He's 7'7" now, allegedly."

Simmons' calling him 7'7" is off-base. If Wembanyama actually measures as an inch taller, he would officially be listed at 7'5" and tied for the tallest player in the NBA with Zach Edey.

Height measurements for athletes are considered quite inconsistent, as indicated by Ace Bailey being listed as a 6'9" forward by Rutgers before the NBA Draft workouts revealed he's 6'7".

The heights of players like Kevin Durant are still disputed to this day, so we likely won't get Wembanyama officially being listed as anything taller than 7'5".

But the thought of Wembanyama being an inch taller should terrify NBA teams. He's averaged 22.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.7 blocks over his career, comfortably leading the NBA in blocks over this stretch as well.
