Blake Griffin: I considered Celtics, Warriors, Blazers before signing with Nets

Blake Griffin ultimately decided to sign with the Brooklyn Nets because he couldn't turn down the opportunity to play alongside Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden. However, he was considering several other teams.

The veteran big man recently revealed on the "Pardon My Take" podcast that he was considering the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers, among others.

"I will tell you some of the teams," Griffin said, as transcribed by NESN's Alexandra Francisco. "I really liked Boston. I really liked Golden State. I really liked Portland. There was a few other teams. It was a tough decision, but ultimately I had to do what was best for me. And I think my ability to get a dunk."

The Nets certainly give Griffin a better opportunity to win a championship than the Celtics, Warriors and Trail Blazers do, so it's not surprising he opted to sign with Brooklyn.

The Celtics were widely considered a contender in the Eastern Conference before the 2020-21 campaign began. They've been anything but a contender, failing to get much out of anyone not named Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown or Kemba Walker. Boston could very well miss the playoffs if its struggles continue.

Despite much improvement from last season, the Warriors have also struggled. Golden State sits ninth in the Western Conference with a 22-21 record and likely won't be able to compete with the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns for the title.

The Trail Blazers are better than the Warriors, sitting sixth in the West with a 25-16 record, but Portland also won't be able to compete with the conference's big dogs.

The Nets, meanwhile, are second in the East with a 28-14 record and could very well take over the conference's top spot before the end of the regular season.
