Blazers Officially Sign Skylar Mays to Two-Way Deal
Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

The Trail Blazers have signed guard Skylar Mays to a two-way contract, according to the NBA transactions log.

Mays, 26, is 6-foot-4 and can play both backcourt positions as he proved in six games with the Blazers last season. He was pretty impressive in that limited action, starting all six games and averaging 15.3 points and 8.3 assists, shooting 50 percent from the field and 46 percent on 3-pointers.

As relayed by Aaron Fentress of the Oregonian, Mays could serve as the Blazers’ third point guard and/or be a key play for the Rip City Remix of the G League.

“Mays played well in some tough matchups late last season,” Fentress wrote. “In an upset victory at Minnesota, he scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and added nine assists while facing Mike Conley Jr. During a close loss at Memphis, Mays scored 24 points with eight rebounds and seven assists while shooting 9 of 16 from the floor and 4 of 6 on threes against Ja Morant.”

Mays received spot duty with the Hawks in his first two seasons and was signed and waived by the 76ers a year ago.
