Blazers Speculated to Pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo and Another Option Per Expert

The Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly eyeing a massive roster shakeup following a disappointing postseason exit. New ownership is reportedly targeting Giannis Antetokounmpo, as the potential deal would reunite the Greek Freak with Damian Lillard to form a dominant duo in the West

Antetokounmpo has drawn interest from multiple teams since the 2026 trade deadline. The Portland side explored their chances then as well. In fact, it emerged as an ideal spot as they could offer multiple first-round picks, including 2028, 2029, and 2030.

In his introductory presser, new owner Tom Dundon stated his plans for the Blazers, which will be “more aggressive than most.” A report from Jake Fischer of Stein Line tied Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Blazers, highlighting the Blazers as the “prime suitor”.

With his ex-teammate Damian Lillard’s presence on the side, this trade could become a reality.

However, the talks did not turn fruitful, as the Blazers withdrew after negotiations stalled. With the new ownership, the Blazers fans can expect a surprise in the summer.

To complete a deal, Portland has an offer that the Bucks can’t possibly refuse.

Fischer reported that the front office can center their offer around forward Jerami Grant, who remains under contract for roughly $70 million for the next two seasons.

Meanwhile, the team also has a backup plan if this doesn’t work out.

What if the Giannis Antetokounmpo deal doesn’t materialize?

If the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade doesn’t reach the finish line, the Blazers do have a fallback option, as per Fischer.

It’s Anthony Davis. The big man recently moved to the Washington Wizards ahead of the trade deadline.

After reaching the Capital, AD had a change in his perception of the side. Speaking about his new teammates, Davis had a positive outlook. Moreover, he also emphasized his desire to compete and grow with the organization.

Davis said, “I want to be able to have fun where I am. I want to be able to compete where I am. I want to be able to learn wherever I am — and this organization has that.”

Despite that, the latest report suggested that Davis could still be traded before the start of the season, as per Chris Haynes. And it ultimately keeps Portland’s backup plan alive.

For now, these rumors remain unconfirmed until official announcements are made.

Either way, a dominant center was something that the Blazers missed this season. A lineup featuring either Giannis or Davis alongside a strong backcourt of Lillard, Jrue Holiday, and Deni Avdija would definitely place the Blazers as contenders.
